What type of housing is Perryville Senior Apartments? Is it low-income housing?

Perryville Senior Apartments is a subsidized housing community for seniors age of 62 & over. The term “subsidized housing” means that the rent is based on income. A resident of the community pays approximately 30% of their income as rent.  There is minimal availability for individuals under 62 who have a qualifying disability.

Who pays the remainder of rent?

The remainder of the rent is paid in the form of a subsidy. If a resident qualifies for a subsidy, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a U.S. government agency, will pay the remainder of the rent.

How is rent calculated?

Resident rent is based on approximately 30% of income. A good estimate of your rent would be to take 30% of your gross annual income and divide it by 12 months. This will give you an estimate of what your monthly rent could be.

What does the rent include?

Monthly rental of the apartment, as well as hot water, & trash. A utility allowance of $ 81.00 for a one-bedroom and $71.00 for an efficiency is the allowance that is deducted off of the resident’s rent payment (meant to help the resident pay the utility bills). The allowance amount is based on average usage for the apartment and may change annually. Residents will still receive one utility bill (electric) but the allowance is intended to help pay for this bill. Residents may still be eligible for energy assistance from the state.

Is there a lease?

Yes, there is a one-year lease, but we understand the necessity of unanticipated move-outs.

How many apartments are there?

Perryville Senior Apartments has 33 apartments, twenty-four one-bedroom units, and nine efficiency units. 

How do I get started with the move-in process?

Simply fill out an application completely, sign it and mail it to the address on the back of the application.

Is there a waiting list for residency?

There is no Waiting List at the present time for any qualifying seniors 62 or over.

What is the Security Deposit?

The Security Deposit is the same as one month’s full rent (plus the $81.00 (for 1 bedroom) or $71.00 (for studio) utility allowance). This deposit is due in full at the signing of the lease.

What is the Pet Deposit?

The nonrefundable pet deposit is $300. Payment arrangements can be made for this deposit. Beginning with $50 and then a monthly payment of $10 until the deposit is paid in full.

Is there additional storage space available?

There is no additional storage available, however, each style of apartment offers some storage space.

Is there an elevator?

Yes, there is an elevator located in the front of the building easily accessible by all residents, on all floors.

Is parking available?

Yes, Perryville Senior Apartments offers its residents the use of a large parking lot.

What is the cost for parking?

There is no cost for parking.

How many keys do I receive?

Residents receive an apartment key, a key to a locked mailbox for their apartment, and an access key fob to the main entry (and the East & South entry). Our main entrance is intercom controlled and automatically opens with the key fob.

Are there any planned activities?

Perryville Senior Apartmentsprints a Monthly Newsletter showing the dates and times of various activities. A calendar is posted on the bulletin board on the first floor showing the daily activities for the Senior Center conveniently located directly across the street. There is also a puzzle area used daily for putting together puzzles located on the second floor and other various crafting projects.

Are there on-site laundry facilities?

There is a laundry center at Perryville Senior Apartments. This laundry center contains two coin-operated washers and two coin-operated dryers with folding and hanging areas and a wash sink for the convenience of our residents. The laundry room is located on the second floor and is open at all times.

What is the garbage/recycling process?

There is a garbage center on each floor of the building specifically for garbage/recycling purposes. On the upper floors, there is a chute to dispose of trash directly into a dumpster. On the main floor, there are designated bins for all recyclables.

Is there any public transportation available?

Yes, currently the city of Perryville has a transit service available. These services stop at our door and take residents to the grocery store, doctor appointment, department stores, local restaurants, and other locations.
