Lowell Place is ideally located next to the Bakersfield Senior Center in a well-established neighborhood with a wide variety of services. Residents can enjoy the close proximity to grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, shopping, medical facilities, churches and public transportation.

Residents must be at least 62 years of age and income limitations are determined bythe U.S.Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Monthly rent is approximately 30% of the resident’s adjusted income.

A Social Service Coordinator is available to help residents’ obtain services for their personal needs.

Lowell Place is a smoke-free community.

What type of housing is Lowell Place? Is it low-income housing?

Lowell Place is a subsidized housing community for seniors over the age of 62 and the mobility/sensory impaired. The term “subsidized housing” means that the rent is based on income. A resident of the community pays approximately 30% of their income as rent.

Who pays the remainder of the rent?

The remainder of the rent is paid in the form of a subsidy. If a resident qualifies for a subsidy, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a U.S. government agency, will pay the remainder of the rent.

How is rent calculated?

Resident rent is based on approximately 30% of income. A good estimate of your rent would be to take 30% of your gross annual income and divide it by 12 months. This will give you an estimate of what your monthly rent could be.

How many apartments are there?

Lowell Place has 79 apartments.

How big are the apartments?

Lowell Place offers spacious one-bedroom apartments, as well as a few more-accessible apartments for the sensory/mobility impaired. For square footage, one-bedroom apartments and accessible apartments are approximately 540 square feet.

How do I get started with the move-in process?

Simply fill out an application completely, sign it and mail it to the address on the back of the application.

Is there a waiting list for residency?

Yes, currently Lowell Place has a waiting list. Please call for the approximate waiting time.

What is the Security Deposit?

The Security Deposit is the same as one month’s full rent (before the electric allowance) with a minimum of $50. This deposit is due in full at the signing of the lease.

Do you allow pets?

Lowell Place welcomes your pet. Fish and birds are welcomed without a deposit. We also welcome small dogs and cats with a pet deposit. There is a limit of one animal (cat or dog) per apartment and there are certain size and breed restrictions.

What is the Pet Deposit?

The pet deposit is the same amount as the security deposit with a minimum of $50 and a maximum of $150. We can make payment arrangements for this deposit. Beginning with $50 and then a monthly payment of $10 until the deposit is paid in full.

Is there an elevator?

Yes, there are two elevators located in the center of the building easily accessible by all residents.

Is parking available?

Yes, Lowell Place offers its residents the use of two parking lots, one on the side of the building and handicap parking in the front of the building.

What is the cost for parking?

There is no cost for parking.

How many keys do I receive?

Residents receive an apartment key and a key to a locked mailbox for their apartment. Our main entrance is intercom controlled and can be opened for visitors by residents’ phones.

Are there on-site laundry facilities?

There is one laundry center at Lowell Place. It contains four coin-operated washers and four coin-operated dryers with folding and hanging areas and a sink for the convenience of our residents. This center is located on the ground floor.

What is the garbage/recycling process?

There is a garbage center on each floor of the building specifically for garbage. Inside, there is a chute to dispose of trash directly into a dumpster.
