What type of housing is Congregational Tower? Is it low-income housing?

Congregational Tower is a subsidized housing community for seniors aged 62 & over.  The term “subsidized housing” means that the rent is based on income.  A resident of the community pays approximately 30% of their income as rent.

Who pays the remainder of the rent?

The remainder of the rent is paid in the form of a subsidy.  If a resident qualifies for a subsidy, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a U.S. government agency, will pay the remainder of the rent.

How is rent calculated?

Resident rent is based on approximately 30% of income.  A good estimate of your rent would be to take 30% of your gross annual income and divide it by 12 months.  This will give you an estimate of what your monthly rent could be.

What does the rent include?

Monthly rental of the apartment, as well as electric, hot water, trash & Free Wifi Service. The resident will only need to pay a separate additional bill for home phone service as well as cable if desired.

Is there a lease?

Yes, there is a one-year lease, but we understand the necessity of unanticipated move-outs.

How many apartments are there?

Congregational Tower has 186 apartments.

How big are the apartments?

Congregational Tower offers spacious efficiency and one-bedroom apartments; we also have 16 one-bedroom ADA units that offer accessible features.

How do I get started with the move-in process?

Simply fill out an application completely, sign it, and mail it to the RHF Corporate address located on the back of the application.

Is there a waiting list for residency?

Yes, currently Congregational Tower has a waiting list.  Please call for the approximate waiting time.

What is the Security Deposit?

The Security Deposit is the same as one month’s full rent. This deposit is due in full at the signing of the lease.

Do you allow pets?

Congregational Tower welcomes you to bring your pet along with you.  Fish and birds are welcomed without a deposit.  We also welcome a small dog or a cat with a pet deposit.  There is a limit of one animal (cat or dog) per apartment and there are certain size and breed restrictions.

What is the Pet Deposit?

The refundable pet deposit is $150.  Payment arrangements can be made for this deposit.  Beginning with $50 and then a monthly payment of $10 until the deposit is paid in full.

Is there additional storage space available?

There is no additional storage available; however, each style of apartment offers some storage space.

Is there an elevator?

Yes, there are two newly renovated elevators located in the center of the building easily accessible by all residents, on all floors.

Is parking available?

Yes, Congregational Tower does offer a limited amount of parking to its residents. Residents are placed on an in-house waiting list.

What is the cost of parking?

There is no cost for parking. However, as we only have 43 spaces and a waiting list there is a parking lot located across the street where you can purchase a monthly pass for $40.00. There are also metered spaces located throughout the neighborhood that only operate from 6 am to 8 pm, after that they are free. Additionally, if you have a Handicap Parking Placard or Handicap License plates on your car you may park in any of the metered spaces for free.

How many keys do I receive?

Residents receive an apartment key, a key to a locked mailbox for their apartment, and an access key to the main entries (the North, South, and Water Dispenser Door entries). Our main entries are intercom controlled and open with the access key once they automatically lock at 5:00 pm daily.  Visitors may call you from the intercom boxes located at both the North and South entrances for entry to the building after hours.

Are there on-site laundry facilities?

There is a laundry center at Congregational Tower.  This laundry center contains eight coin-operated washers and eight coin-operated dryers with folding and hanging areas and a wash sink for the convenience of our residents.  There are carts provided in the laundry for use transferring your items from the washer to the dryer. The laundry room is located on the ground floor and is open 24 hours a day.

What are the garbage/recycling processes?

There is a garbage center on each floor of the building specifically for garbage purposes.  Starting on the second floor, there is a chute to dispose of trash directly into a dumpster.  In the parking lot, there is a structure dedicated to recyclables that include a dumpster that is picked up three (3) times per week.  There are signs in both English and Spanish along with pictures of what qualifies as recyclables.  All else belongs in the regular trash chute.

Is there any public transportation available?
