Virginia Park Apartments
Virginia Park is a two-story building with 40 apartments which were built with a controlled entrance, equipped with automatic doors and an elevator, specifically to accommodate mobility impaired persons who are at least 18 years of age.
Our community is located on the southeast side of Iowa’s capital, Des Moines. ParaTransit buses, Metro Buses, and local taxi service are available to our residents for easy access to the grocery stores and shopping areas that are close by. Meals On Wheels is available to residents upon their request.
Your rent will be approximately 30% of your monthly income. For 2021, annual income must not exceed $25,150 for one person or $28,750 for two people. How much will I pay for rent?
A family’s anticipated gross income determines not only eligibility for assistance, but also determines the rent a family will pay and the subsidy required. Your rent will be approximately 30% of your monthly income. For a more detailed explanation please contact Virginia Park at (515) 288-5616.
How is rent calculated?
Resident rent is based on approximately 30% of income. A good estimate of your rent would be to take 30% of your gross annual income and divide it by 12 months. This will give you an estimate of what your monthly rent could be.
I’m receiving SSDI, do I qualify to lease an apartment at Virginia Park?
Virginia Park has 40 units designed to meet the specific needs of those with mobility and/or sensory impairments. To determine whether someone would qualify to lease an apartment at Virginia Park we perform third party verification with the applicant’s doctor. That person would have to sign our verification form for the need of an accessible unit and verify what design features would best accommodate the applicant.
Are utilities covered?
Utilities are covered, except for phone and cable, should you choose to have them.
How much is rent?
Rent is calculated on approximately 30 percent of your adjusted gross income.
Are all the apartment handicap accessible?
Is this assisted living?
No. Virginia Park apartments are accessible units designed to better accommodate those who may have difficulty carrying out their day to day living activities in a conventional dwelling. Those eligible would have a mobility and/or sensory impairment and be 18 years or older. The resident would have to have already in place assistance for his/or her daily living activities. Virginia Park only provides the accessible unit.
Are pets allowed?
Yes, with some restrictions.
Do you have 2 bedroom apartments?
Yes, there are requirements to be met to qualify for the two bedroom apartments.
Do you have air conditioning? If so, who controls the temperature?
Yes, central air conditioning is provided as is heat. The residents control their thermostat in their apartment.
