What type of housing is Esperanza Apartments? Is it low-income housing?

Esperanza Apartments is a modern, affordable housing community for senior adults who are 55 years or older. Esperanza Apartments has several ADA units that have special features for mobility and/or sensory impaired persons who are over the age of 55.

Where is Esperanza located?

Esperanza Apartments is located in South Seattle, in a residential area away from traffic and congestion, yet close to shopping, churches, public transportation, and medical facilities.

Are there any planned activities?

A monthly calendar is available showing the dates and times of various activities. We offer bingo card games, board games, and seasonal activities such as walks, concerts, and parties. Residents also have access to an exercise room, a computer room, and a dining room, where excellent meals can be purchased at a low cost.

Is there any transportation available?

Yes, for those who qualify, free transportation from our parking lot is available. Public transportation is available a short, two blocks from the community.

What safety/security features are offered?

Outside doors are locked at all times. Access to the building is obtained only by a resident’s key or by being buzzed in through the call box. Strategically placed cameras are monitored through a central system and there is a security person on duty, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each apartment opens onto an indoor corridor and can be unlocked only by the tenant’s key or by the management. In addition, the building is equipped with emergency pull cords and there is one in each apartment’s bathroom in case you need help.

Do you take Section 8 Vouchers?

Yes. If the resident has a Section 8 Voucher HUD determines, according to the income of the tenant, what portion of the rent HUD pays and what portion the tenant pays. Otherwise, the tenant pays full rent.

How does a person get a Section 8 Voucher?

Section 8 Vouchers are issued by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). They are for life, provided the recipient complies with the HUD regulations, and can be transferred to any place in the United States. In the South Seattle area, contact the Seattle Housing Authority for more information or call our staff at 206-760-0202.

Are there income limitations?

Yes, the apartments are reserved for residents who earn less than 60 percent of the area median gross income. Our staff will be happy to explain this to you. The limitations are determined by HUD.

How many apartments are there?

Esperanza is a newer, 3-story building (with elevator) with 84 apartments.

How do I get started with the move-in process?
