Volunteer of the Year

The “Volunteer of the Year” award is given to an individual, group of individuals, or organization that provides extraordinary service on a volunteer basis to an RHF community.

Hope’s Point Baptist Church
Charles Major Manor, Shelbyville, Indiana

Since October 2019, a volunteer group from Hope’s Point Baptist Church has been serving the residents of Charles Major Manor on a monthly basis. Particularly, they wanted to focus on connecting with those residents who do not have close family members and letting them know that they are valued and cared for by several members of the community.

Once a month, the Hope’s Point group prepares a meal and brings it to the building to serve to all of the residents. The group arrives early to the property and decorates the tables in the community room while finishing up final preparations. Residents are invited down to the community room to enjoy the meal, and for those who do not want to come out, a meal is delivered to their door. During the pandemic, the group continued to serve the residents by providing a sack meal that was delivered to each door monthly. On top of the monthly meal, the group puts together special gifts for each resident at Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Christmas.

When the group learned that they had received the award, they were truly humbled, but made sure to state that the work they do is not for recognition, but for “God’s glory”.
