What type of housing is University Center? Is it low income housing?

University Center is a subsidized housing community for older adults or those over the age of 18 who are mobility/sensory impaired. The term “subsidized housing” means that the rent is based on income. A resident of the community pays approximately 30% of their income as rent.

Who pays the remainder of rent?

The remainder of the rent is paid in the form of a subsidy. If a resident qualifies for a subsidy, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a U.S. government agency, will pay the remainder of the rent.

How is rent calculated?

Resident rent is based on approximately 30% of income. A good estimate of your rent would be to take 30% of your gross annual income and divide it by 12 months. This will give you an estimate of what your monthly rent could be.

How big are the apartments?

University Center offers spacious studio and one-bedroom apartments, as well as a few more-accessible apartments for the sensory/mobility impaired. Our apartments are approximately 550 square feet in size.

How do I get started with the move-in process?

Simply fill out an application completely, sign it and mail it to the address on the back of the application.

Is there a waiting list for residency?

Yes, currently University Center has a waiting list, approximately 3 – 6 months.

What is the Security Deposit?

The security deposit is the same as one month’s full rent (before the electric allowance) with a minimum of $50. While the deposit is due in full at the signing of the lease, we can work with you and spread the deposit out over time if coming up with it all at one time is difficult.

Is there an elevator?

Yes.

Are there on-site laundry facilities?

There are two on the second floor and one on the first floor.

Is this a smoke-free community?

Yes, University Center is a smoke-free community.  Smoking is allowed in a designated area 25 ft away from the entrance.
